Assistant Prosecutor Ralph Cretella oversees all the cases involving juveniles and all juvenile cases in Middlesex.

The Middlesex County Juvenile Team tracks and maintains records on all juvenile cases, prepares pre-dispositional reports, and oversees case diversions such as Juvenile Conference Committee, Intake Service Conference and Juvenile Referees. Middlesex County’s Family Court Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) recommends specific services for individual juveniles charged as delinquent and acts as an alternative disposition to detention if the juvenile is adjudicated delinquent. The Family Court MDT Coordinator refers youth for services, including drug and alcohol evaluation and mental health evaluations, and maintains a database of clients and services.

A popular alternative to detention is Middlesex County’s “Clean Slate” program which is a joint effort between the prosecutor’s office and police departments. The program consists of six weeks of training, community service and a variety of other duties that is aimed at giving juveniles a second chance so they can avoid a criminal record because it can impact their lives when they’re adults.
